Recent data from Lands of America shows $352 million in land and ranches for sale in the Cornhusker State. This represents a total of 231,177 acres of land for sale in Nebraska. The most expensive piece of land listed for sale on Lands of America recently was $14 million, while the median price for land, ranches and farms in Nebraska came in at $899,090. The average price of land for sale in Nebraska was $1 million. There was 7,989 acres of sold land in Nebraska recorded in March 2018 through the Lands of America sales program. This reflects an increase in sales activity over data from the previous period. The total value of this sold land and rural real estate was $13.0 million. Of the nearly 800, 000 acres of public lands in Nebraska, approximately two percent is open to hunting. Most hunting in the state takes place on private lands. Plentiful other outdoor-recreation opportunities await in the state's 77 state parks that comprise forestland and bluffs and the dune's and grasslands of the state's famous Sandhills. In terms of its size, Nebraska is the country's 16th-largest state, covering an area of 77,358 square miles (50 million acres). In its entirety, 76,824 square miles (99 percent) is made up of land, while the remaining 524 square miles is made up of water. Less than ten percent of land in Nebraska is public land (i.e. national and state parks, national forests, BLM land). As befits a state with excellent hunting for big and small game like deer, waterfowl and wild turkey, hunting land was the most common type of land for sale in Nebraska.
